Father/Daughter Dance 2011

On Saturday it was time again for the annual Father/Daughter dance at St. John Vianney.  We started out the evening the same as last year, with our second annual pre dance dinner at Red Robin.  Because of schedules, we didn't have as many attendees as last year, but it was still fun.  It was the Shulskis, Mesquitas and 2 Noels that had dinner this year.  After dinner, it was time to head to mass.  It was nice because we sat by my mom, my aunt and our friend Chris.  After mass, the dads and daughters headed to the dance while some of us moms and sons headed to the bowling alley.  Joshua and I had blast bowling with Cindy and David, Mandy and Jacob and Chelle, Alex, Jon and Noah.  We enjoyed pizza and beer... root beer, that is!  After bowling we picked up Anthony and Alexandra and headed home where we spent the rest of the night watching "Star Wars, Epsisode 2: Attack of the Clones."  Thank you GOD for such a special night with family and friends!

Yes! Alexandra wore her Dr. Seuss high tops instead of dress shoes!

Enjoying their pizza and being silly

Estrella Mountain Regional Park

Another Friday, another Girl Scout meeting!  And was this one to remember!  All three groups (Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors) went to Estrella Mountain Regional Park to learn about the desert that we live in.  First, we went to the nature center to spend time with the park rangers.  They gave us an overview of the types of animals that live in the desert around us.  A few of the girls we so scare they actually started crying because they didn't want to go on the nature walk and "bump" into some of those desert creatures, specially the snakes.

After the nature center, we walked the 1/2 mile loop just to give the girls a glimpse of what a hike would be like in the desert.  Then it was time for ice cream and the playground.  All in all, it was a fun couple of hours!

Girl Scouts, Parties and Luke Days

The Mesquitas had another busy and fun weekend, spent with family and friends.  We started out on Friday by having another great Girl Scout meeting.  It was one big group meeting with all the Juniors (4th & 5th graders), Brownies (2nd & 3rd graders) and Daisies (Kinder & 1st graders)!  I thought the older girls wouldn't enjoy it but it sure looked like they did.  We started out with snacks, then a long round of "Red Rover, Red Rover."  The girls (and a couple of boys...like Joshua) had a blast!!  We played half an inning of kickball then headed back to the room for the actual meeting.  Our goal was to make cards for kids that are currently in the hospital.  I think we met and surpassed that goal, as each girl made at least 5 cards each.  Each card showed their GS and SJV spirit, letting the receipt know that they are loved and thought of.

On Saturday, we had not one but two parties to attend.  The first was Claire's birthday party.  Claire is in Joshua's class, but also the daughter of a good friend.  Joshua, Alexandra and I went to the party where we enjoyed spending time with our friends.  For the kids that meant playing in the jumper, making crafts and running around.  For me, that I meant I could spend time to talk to my friends who I see during the week during drop off or pick up.  It was nice to be able to stop, sit and talk.

Then we headed to the big party at my mom's house.  She was hosting the wedding shower for Raquel and Andy, who are not getting married in April, but instead in June.   Those two crazy kids look so happy when they are together.  They always have the biggest smiles on their faces.  Congratulations to them!  I can't wait for their wedding this summer!

Sunday we went to mass, then headed out to Luke Air Force Base for Luke Days.  I know, you're surprised we went. So am I! :-)  The only reason we went was because we went with the Morenos.  Ernie had texted Anthony on Saturday wondering if we wanted to go so I said, "sure.  I'll let you and Ernie plan it."  That of course meant, Cathy & I exchanging texts on Sunday morning before and after church trying to figure out when and where to meet.  We finally made it to Luke and had some fun.  Until the kids saw the "Kids Zone."  Joshua threw a fit when we didn't let the kids ride or play on the jumpers/slides.  I came to an air show to see the show and to see military birds that you normally only get to see on t.v.  We waited in line and sat in the cockpit of a C-130 Hercules.  The pilot was nice and talked about his job.  He is actually based in Little Rock, Arkansas.  They were there just for the airshow.  They were expecting to leave later that night, about 2:00am to head back to their base.

We had lots of fun but this "free" event wasn't so free.  Parking was $10!!!  $10 to park in a dirt lot.  We get into the base walking through metal detectors, which freaked Alexandra out, then walked more to get to where all the planes were set up.  Programs were $10, we walked away with a free copy of the base's newspaper  "The Thunderbolt" instead.  The Kids Zone wasn't free, that's why we didn't stay in that area.  And when it was time for drinks and snacks... we paid $12 for two snow cones!  $12!!!!  But, hey, refills were only $2.  What a deal!

We watched a couple of the air shows, best of which were the Golden Knights, the Army's parachuting team.  We decided to leave a little early and missed the Thunderbirds show.  But, all in all, we had a good time!

Our evening ended with dinner at the Morenos.  Thank you Ernie and Cathy for dinner!

Now it's time for another week of work, and as usual, I'm looking forward to the weekend!

Random thoughts...

Reading the blogs written by others, makes me want to devote more time to documenting and writing about everyday life.  But that seems so boring.  So, does that mean I lead a boring life?  I don't think so.  Stressful and busy, but not boring.

Tomorrow will be one week since Lent started.  That means one week of NO Facebook.  I thought I'd be tempted everyday, every minute, but that isn't the case.  The thing I really miss is my games. hahaha  My Cityville city is being run over by robbers, what's a girl to do?  Then there is Bejeweled Blitz and SuperPoke Pets.  Oh well, I'll get over it.  No Facebook means:  1.  I don't waste time in the morning when i'm getting ready for work.  So, I'm able to get out of the house on time.  What a concept!   2.  My battery life on my phone lasts a little longer because I'm not on my phone running the FB app or receiving any email or text message notifications.   And finally, 3., i feel like I'm out of the loop.  I don't know what people are up to.  Again, I'll get over it.  So far, so good, but we'll see as Lent continues, how I do.

Life continues, with or without Facebook.  This means the continued juggling of family and work.  My work contract was extended for another 8 months.  These means I have 8 more months of work, as well as 8 more months to find a permanent position.  BUT on a sad note, this means that for the first time in two years I have to work this summer.  It's been nice not having to work the last two summers.  It's been awesome being able to sleep in and spend time at home with the kids not worrying about work.  We'll be taking a week off in the summer for family trip, but that's it.  I'll have to figure how to fit in weekend trips to San Diego to visit family and the beach, of course, into our summer plans.

March is a busy time for us.  One main reason is because of all the birthdays we celebrate this month.  Pita starts out the month and my mom ends the month.  In between we have Briana, Emma, Berna, Helen, Fernando, Martha and Raquel.  Time to party!  This month we also will be celebrating Raquel & Andy at their wedding shower as they get ready to be married next month.  Woo hoo!

It's March 15th, so happy birthday to my beautiful niece, Briana, and to my sister-in-law Bernadette.  I wish you happiness and a life full of blessings!!
